A PSA for Morning People

Woo-HOO! I knew there was a reason I'm not a morning person!

A Japanese study notes that early rising might not be good for the heart.

I know a lot of people who get up super early just to go exercise before going to work (like 4am early). I prefer to workout at night (on those rare occasions that I actually DO workout), either after work or around 8:00ish-9:00ish.

Have you ever noticed how morning people think they're better than everyone else? They're always all chipper and happy in the morning. Here's an example:

Morning Person: "Come on, you lazy head! Get out of bed! It's almost dawn, a new day is beginning, and life is GOOD!"

Me: "There had better be a fire or something really bad for you to be talking to me before 6am."

Morning Person: "What do you mean? Who would want to sleep during the best part of the day? The birds are singing, the sun is rising, and life is GOOD!"

Me: "No, SLEEP is good. Go away before I hurt you."

Morning Person: "Well, aren't we just a crankybottom. Some people just don't know what's good for.... grgg auugggh!"

That's the sound they make after I beat them senseless.

So what have we learned* today, kids? A) Early rising=bad, B) Waking up a non-morning person= worse.

And that concludes today's Public Service Announcement. Have a nice day.

*There's a quiz. I'm not saying when... just know that you will be expected to remember this information! ;-)

I hate chippy morning people!!! Early rising is pure and simple evil! The only time it is somewhat tolerable (and that's stretching it A LOT) is when I travel, for vacations (does not apply to work!)... but other than that it is bad.

I've been know to get violent when woken up too early for my internal clock. Have to respect those things, even if we don't see them, no?

I figure if I'm not so annoying as to expect morning people to jump up and tackle the world with me when they're winding down in late afternoon, it's not too much to ask for them to refrain from trying to "cheer up the grumpy people" before we're even fully awake.

Am I crazy or does it freak anyone else out a little to see people acting downright peppy within minutes of getting out of bed?

The only time it is ok to see 4am if if you've been up all night and you are getting ready to go to bed. Otherwise, it is just plain torture.

I read/heard someone say that the world is unfairly geared towards morning people in terms of idolising, being economically slanted towards them (why don't we work 10am - 6pm?) and generally just behaving as if rising early is correct and laudable behavior. And it's true - somewhere along the way society decided that to sleep in the morning is lazy but to stay up at night is irresponsible (because it stops us from waking early). To bad for all us night people... i wonder if there is a case for discrimination there?

stinkypaw: me, too... about the violent actions when awakened before I'm ready. We have a rule in the mornings: no talking to anybody until everyone is fully awake. ;-)

sparkling: no, you're not crazy. That freaks me out, too!

goldennib: EXACTLY!

Brent: we've actually mentioned that around these parts before, too. I wholeheartedly agree with you! (are you wire, or are you a different Brent?)

I have always been a morning person and we can get frustrated too! I have ALWAYS been up very early-3am despite my efforts to change my circadian rhythym. Since I'm always up early, I'm always at work very early and am ready to leave promptly at the end of the work day. Since there are many night people who stay late (they arrived much later), I often feel guilty about leaving work on time and feel the need to explain that I've been at work since 6:30 am and need to leave! We DO go through the same struggles, ours are just in the afternoon/evening instead of the morning!
