I Don't Want to be SMELLY no more!

Maliavale's recent post about deodorant got me thinking...

Do you think it's possible to build up a tolerance to deodorant/anti-perspirant? You know how, if you take too much Tylenol or Advil over a period of time, you will become more tolerant of the drug, thereby rendering it ineffective... right? Can that happen with deodorant? 'Cause I think I'm there. Either that, or my old-age-hormonal-changes are making me a sweaty, stinky chick.

I've been through the kind that rhymes with "Shove"-- although their 'real women' commercials are great, I'm not so sure that real women can actually depend on that stuff. I've been through the "Confidential" brand, too. Hate their commercials, and their product loses its effectiveness in about 30 minutes. So I went a little higher up on the deodorant food chain and tried that one about Temperature. It's supposed to be "body responsive." Yeah, right.

And Maliavale is right... depending upon the type of fabric I'm going to wear, I choose a different deodorant. Synthetic blends are just bad news! Nothing works with that stuff.

I don't know what's wrong with me. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Maybe I'm putting on too MUCH, and it's making things worse. Or maybe... I'm just stinky. I don't like that option. I'm going to try one more brand* (highly recommended) before I go all Matthew McConnaughey-I'm-stinky-but-I-don't-give-a-damn.

*I know I could go have my pits Botoxed, but that is just not an option. I'll go all stinky before I inject poison anywhere in my body.

What an enlightening comment above. I hope they return to leave more.

Deodorant-wise, I've read that you can indeed build up an immunity to it. At least, that's the story I'm sticking to. Still, I'm a huge fan of this Kiehl's stuff.

Okay, this is not my idea, so I have no clue as to its effectiveness, but I totally remember seeing on someone else's blog (chirky.com) that she uses Bath and Body Works antibacterial gel instead of deodorant. Perhaps it's worth a shot before embracing your inner McConaughey? Also, I could not agree with you more as to the suckiness of the brands you've used, particularly "Shove."

It. Doesn't. Work.

Secret Platinum. It is the only one that works for me. And if I build up a tolerance to it, then I will cry.

I also think that we do build up a tolerance, and like you wrote with the hormonal changes occuring... I even noticed it with my perfume, since my surgery, not the same! And now with the "power surges" (read hot flashes) no deodorant will do! I'm using Dove at the moment, and at times I'm tempted by Hubby's ... I thought it was Brad Pitt who smelled like "bad pitts" he! he! ok! it's late!

Try Kiss My Face roll-on. Love it. Especially the patchouli one.

I built up an intolerance to Secret. Dove only worked for a short while. I now use Lady Speed Stick and it seems to work great.

My friend got a prescription for some special deodorant from the dr. eek.

It makes sense. Just when I get so happy with a deodorant that I want to tell people, I start stinking again.

I think I'm at that point with shampoo, drat. My hair has looked crappy for two months now. I dread asking someone at the salon for help....

Wow, you have had some delightful spam comments today!

Well, I have been pimping the Kiehl's all over the internets. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. It is well worth all ten of those dollars.

maliavale: I'm going to try the Kiehl's stuff, too. And maybe the Origins as well. Maybe if I do a double whammy kind of thing, I can conquer it all. haha

Oh, and I'm totally deleting all those spammer comments. Yuck.

metaliag: I don't know if I'm brave enough for that! I just can't see that working throughout the entire work day!

-r-: yeah, been there, done that. You are much daintier than I, my friend! ;-)

stinkypaw: yeah, Dove doesn't work for me either. Boo. And I don't want to smell like my hubby. Eeek! ;-)

gabrielle: Hmmm... I'll have to give that one a try, too. Thanks!

paisley: a prescription? Wow. Now that's serious!

sparkling cipher: I change shampoos all the time... I stick with one I know works, and then change it up every two weeks by using something different... but only for about a couple of days. Especially if it's a clarifying product.

hannah: yeah, I don't know if I should smell like a dude or just stink. Hey... where did your blog go? Did you disappear again?

gg: I HOPE so! It won't arrive for at least a week, so I'll have to buck up until then.

HA HA! I have the power! Spammer comments -- you're gone.

Maybe you should try rubbing yourself down each day with a block of sea salt until you completely dry out all the pores in your skin - kind of like 'salting the earth'. Sure you'll have to give up any hope of your body yeilding a good crop of wheat anytime soon but i think it's worth the sacrifice.

wire: ummmm... no thanks. My skin is already flaking off at the speed of light thanks to this cold, dry weather we're having. But thanks for the suggestion. And I'll just have to resign myself to being "wheat-less" this year. ;-)

Drink lots of water--that wil help with the dry skin and is good for body scent.

Um, maybe you ...I don't know. I have nothing.

gabrielle: I probably drink about 64oz a day... or more already. In fact, I think you can hear me sloshing about usually. haha!

goldennib: me either.

I don't think you can built up a tolerance to deorderant! But chagen if the one you have isn't working. Shtinky is not cool... but I love you anyway, I can't smell you from here! :P

Two words: Lady Mitchum. It works great for me. The label says "so effective you could skip a day," and while I haven't deliberately tested that theory, I have reason to know it's true. For me, at least.
