Are you talkin' to me? Are YOU talkin' to me?!?

Comments from my last post got me thinking about the impact the entertainment industry really has on us. Think about it... there are probably movie lines or lines from a TV show that have slowly become a part of your everyday vernacular. Most likely, after a time, you may even have forgotten that the line you now use regularly came from a character in some show.

How many times have you had a crazy day, felt completely stressed out, to the point of shrieking, "Serenity NOW!" ??

Have you ever walked up to someone to introduce yourself: "Grumpy Frump. Damn glad to meet you!"

If you're a golfer, have you walked up to the tee box, addressed the ball, muttering, "The crowd has gone deadly silent, a Cinderella story outta nowhere..." -- or complimented the tee shot of someone in your foursome with "That's a peach, hon!" (or "Noonan!" or "Be the ball, be the ball" or "Hey! Did someone sit on a duck?!?" I could go forever on this one....)

Guys, have you jumped in a car or on a motorcycle (or any other moving object), and yelled, "I feel the need, the need for speed!" Or ladies, in trying to get your man to leave the bar and come home with you, have you joked, "Hey, Goose! You big stud! Take me to bed or lose me forever!"??

When my husband gives me a bad time, he'll say, "Get back, witch!" To which I'll respond, "I'm not a witch... I'm your wife!" We laugh, the kids roll their eyes... a good time is had by all. Ah, the joys of embarrassing teenagers. But, I digress...

It's not that most people lack original thoughts... or that we can't think of something clever to say. You all prove that you're original and witty in your own postings and comments. Maybe it's a sense of community people tend to feel when they quote something that everybody knows. I don't know, but there's something there.

So, here's your task. In the comments section today, list some of your favorite quotes, especially those that sneak into your everyday conversation. Be sure to include the movie/tv show title, and credit the character who said it.

BTW, it's killing me that I have so MANY quotes that I didn't list. Like about a hundred from Napoleon Dynamite or any of Chandler Bing's lines from Friends, or ... aaauuugggh. Must. Stop.

I say Dang! and Gawd! about 30 times a day but I only say it the way Napoleon does. There might be something wrong with me.

I have too many other favorite quotes to just pick one.

This one I’ve actually used in conversation... Bring It On (2000) starring Kirsten Dunst. I hate her and cheerleaders but I love this movie so much so that I actually own it.

Cheerleading Squad: That’s alright. That’s ok. You’re gonna pump our gas someday. That’s alright. That’s ok. You’re gonna pump our gas someday.
For this to be effective you must make your hands into a gas pump (both hands together similar to a gun) and make a pumping motion (more sexual than actual pumping).

This one is from Hook (1991) starring Robin Williams & Dustin Hoffman. Its effective in sappy cards or similar things... esp when inserting persons name where Peter Pans is.

Tinkerbell: You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you, Peter Pan. That's where I'll be waiting.

Julie: I love Hook. We use, "Bad form! Bad form!" all the time when someone is cheating. :-)

For years I thought my husband was filled with brilliant witticisms (is that a real word?) but as I got to know him and watch movies with him, I realized that he's a quoting freak. Sadness...

I don't know what this is from, but we seem to say, "Sheeeeiiit, Neegro" to each other a lot. Albeit quite politically incorrect for two of the crackerest crackers ever, we still giggle. Oh, we only saw it in private so we aren't murdered.

We also say, "Am I right or am I right? Or am I right? Am I right?" from Groundhog Day when the insurance guy runs into Bill Murray on the street. Cracks us up.

Also, "I am not arguing that with you, Harry. Harry, I am not arguing that with you." from Joe vs. the Volcano. Tom Hanks' boss says it in the beginning on the phone in the background.

Needless to say, I am drawing a blank at all the others because I'm not sure they are quotes or we're just weird as my husband fooled me for so long. I kinda want to live in fantasy land that he's just brilliant and funny and not a habitual copycat.

:)

Fun post. yay DCMM! You da bomb.

Oh, I say this with my friends kids sometimes, propagating self esteem everywhere.

From Wildcats with Goldie Hawn

U-G-L-Y YOU AIN'T GOT NO ALIBI
YOU UGLY
YEAH, YEAH
YOU UGLY

M-A-M-M-A HOW'D YOU THINK YOU GOT THAT WAY?
YOUR MAMA
YEAH, YEAH
YOUR MAMA

Must be performed with proper attitude and butt jiggles.

A lot of mine (and Matt's - we say them to each other) are political. A favorite that he or I will say to each other, "you're doing a heckuva job, Brownie."

I do the Napoleon Dynamite, "gosssshhh" and "TINA! Eat your dinner!" And Long Duk Dong in Sixteen Candles: "no more yanky my wanky," "Don-ng...where is my auto-mo-bile?" Then there's "It puts the lotion in the basket."

Kris, Aimee and I were imitating Will Farrell imitating Harry Caray the entire last weekend. That's a favorite, too.

God, I know there are more...

Virtually any Princess Bride can be quoted at random times.

"Ummm, yeah..." from Office Space

"COME ON A-YEEEAHHHH!" Jack Black in Saving Silverman.

"C,mon c'mon C'mon c'mon,..." about a hundred times. Steve Zahn in Saving Silverman.

"Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xuhr and the Kodan Armada." The Last Starfighter.

"Sloth love Chunk."; "Baby...Ruth";"And then, when I was in the fifth grade, I pushed my sister down the stairs, and I blamed it on the dawwwwwwwwg!"; "You see this one? This was my wish, my dream, and it didn't come true, so I'm taking it back. I'm taking 'em all back.";"Andy!...You GOONIEEEEEE!!!" various Goonies quotes.

I could go on for days.

The one we use from the Princess Bride most often is: "And thank YOU for bringing up such a nice memory. While you're at it, why don't you give me nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?" I can't believe I forgot to mention that one in my comments yesterday.

The other one we use was one we heard Madonna say during an interview (have no idea where it came from originally) "Yeah, when monkeys fly out of my butt" (ie, when someone asks you a question where the answer is "never") .... but more often than that, we just make these stupid squeaking noises, which are supposed to SOUND like monkeys coming out of our butts.

Now that I think about it, we're just weird.

Around these parts, whenever someone starts running after something, someone will inevitably offer up a, "RUN, FORREST!" Any work day can inspire a Clerks nod: "I wasn't even supposed to be here today!" A trip to any convenience store ends up containing, "Plain or BQ?" to which the appropriate response is always an indignant, "BQ!!!!!" Ahh, Heathers. And when in doubt, Clueless: "GOD ALTON, CAN'T YOU SUCK?"

On Scrubs when Ted the lawyer says that he's rubber and Kelso's glue. After that every time Kelso says something, Ted goes, "Boing...Fwip!"

JD call poop "Twosies".

Cox's rants are awesome, but my favorite is, "What in the name of Are You There, God, It's Me, Margaret..."

And FRIENDS:

Also, Joey's trademark, "How you doin'?"

Monica's emphatic, "I KNOW!"

Ross's pathetic, "hi"

Phoebe's poetic, "Smelly cat..." song.

Rachel's awesome rack. (did I type that out loud?)

Chandler's...well, almost any Chandlerism works.

paisley: There are things we quote at our house sometimes, and we don't even realize we're quoting... it just seems like something our family has said for years! And we love the U-G-L-Y cheer!

jurgen: Napoleon lives at our house, too. "Eat some ham!" And my daughter is constantly yelling "Hey!" at me in her Harry Carey voice... cracks me up!

jaek: me, too! And Office Space... "because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire!"

kristie: not weird at all... ;-) It's like your inside joke that cracks you up every time!

red: ah, yes. Forrest Gump... we do the Run Forrest and Peas and Carrots lines a lot. And of course, you have to use the Forrest voice, too!

Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?

Margus: how did I know you'd post something from Half-Baked? ;-)
"The doctor said I need a backiotomy!"
