It's Spring! Break out the long underwear and mittens...

Well, things are starting to really warm up here in the Midwest. This week, our temps will stay in the mid-70s F (around 24 degrees C). In fact, that is a bit warm for April, but we're not complaining. It's beautiful outside, and everyone has spring fever.

WHICH MEANS....

It's now necessary to wear a parka in my office. Go figure. All winter long, the average office temp was 85 degrees F (29 C). No lie. I walked around in thin cotton blouses and skirts in the office, and then bundled up to go outside where the average was around freezing. If it's cold outside, the office will feel like an oven.

Now that it's warming up outside, the office will be freezing. Arctic. Polar-like. My fingernails are blue as I'm typing this (I'd take a photo of them, but I left my camera at home. Gah!). The average office temp now will hover between 60 and 65 degrees F (15-18 C). On top of my spring outfit today, I'm wearing a very dorky cardigan that I keep in my office just for warmth. As soon as I need to leave the office, I will shed the sweater and go outside to revel in the sun and warmer temps.

I think I need to find a job where I can work from my bed. I'll buy one of those princess phones and call everyone "DAH-ling." I will wear long, silk nighties with fabulous, luxurious robes all day long. I'll drink mimosas all morning and nibble on bon bons delivered by my manservant (who looks surprisingly like the Farm Boy). For lunch, a cart will be rolled in with a delectable assortment of fruits, veggies, salads, Chipotle burritos, and cheesecakes. The princess phone will be ringing non-stop, because everyone who's anyone will want a piece of my time and attention.

... And when the pink-striped pigs start flying right outside my window... I'll wake up and realize that I'm drooling on my keyboard. I've fallen asleep at work due to the fact that I couldn't sleep last night. And it's still cold. Bleh.

Our office does the same thing! I'm constantly having to dress for two completely different seasons when I go to work. It's either summer inside and winter outside, or winter inside and summer outside. Grr.

When I was teaching all the air was controlled at some remote location. In between classes I'd have to go outside to thaw. So cold!!!!

I had to start buying semi-padded bras so the high school kids wouldn't give me an awful nickname. hee hee ok - tmi again? shoot!

That's such a good plan! Don't wake up, just do it. Bring it on! And you totally need to talk to whoever is in control of temperature control at your office. When I say talk, I mean 'talk'...

nabbs: let's go on strike. M'kay?

paisley: ohmigod! I had to do the exact same thing when I taught. Scary. Plus, in the summer time, it was so freaking hot, that we just pitted out in anything we wore. Nasty.

ludi: I can't. The building has a 50 year old heating and cooling system. There's no "fixing" it... they'd have to replace the whole thing. And since the building is ginormous, that would be in the millions o' dollars. oh, well. Sucks to be me. I guess things could be worse, eh?

You could be in Antarctica!

Antarctica??? *shudder* I hope not! :-)

nikki: currently, the manservant is too busy with his own business to bother coming to my office to warm me up. :-(

Totally with you, DCMM. All except the manservant.

The manservant idea is one you should work on.
:-)
My husband quit his job last fall and is going to school full time (12 grad hrs), and I figured out yesterday that I'm really going to miss having him around all day when he goes back to work (his classes are all in the evening). It's different when we're alone, with the kids are at school. We forgot how that felt - having the house to ourselves, after we were invaded by children 17 years ago.

You need some Bob Cratchit fingerless gloves and a scarf. Maybe a candle at the corner of your desk, to provide the illusion of warmth.

Darren: yeah, I'm guessing you wouldn't be in need of my manservant's talents. BTW, I'm sipping tea out of my Darren mug right this second.

tammara: Wow... that must be amazing. I'm just hoping for more than a couple of hours at a time with my own Farm Boy. The Chicago trip was too short a getaway for us.

Oh, and I actually brought Bob Cratchit gloves to work once. I wonder where I put those???

We've enjoyed trips away, but there's just nothing like being in your own quiet home... which is only quiet when the kids are gone, eh? We took one "vacation" where we had grandparents keep the kids for several days - only 15 minutes away. No packing, no airlines, and your own shower. What could be better? (Well, okay - Paris. But sometimes, the budget just says NO.)
